Jersey Property Holdings Specify Forticrete's Hardrow for New Multi-Million Pound School
Highly durable Hardrow roof slates from Forticrete, the UK's leading manufacturer of concrete roof tiles and slates, have been specified for the construction of a new £5.2 million state-of-the-art building at St Martin's School in St Martin, Jersey.
The stunning new building, which sits on an adjacent site to St Martin's school's previous building, which is now occupied by the Parish of St.Martin, accommodates over 200 students and nursery pupils, in addition to full and part-time staff. Designed to support modern teaching practices and meet the needs and expectations of its pupils, the school's new building features smart LED lighting, under-floor heating, solar panels, a grey-water system, a fully independent amphitheatre and a sensory garden.
As architects for the project, Jersey Property Holdings specified Forticrete's high performance Hardrow roof slates in Forest and Dusk, to create a welcoming, awe-inspiring, yet cost-effective finish that complements the building's rural vernacular.
Mike Higginson, Architect at Jersey Property Holdings, commented: "The school's previous building was too restrictive for pupils and teachers alike. As a result, the new school building was designed to provide pupils with the ideal environment that they would not only work within, but ultimately enjoy and excel in. Therefore, we placed significant importance on sourcing the right materials for the job.
"Forticrete provided us with the ideal solution, helping to deliver the modern and stimulating finish we craved."
Forticrete's Hardrow Slates offer virtually the same architectural properties and aesthetic appeal as natural stone or slate. Formed from concrete, they retain a characteristic that mellows with age and can be laid in broken bond, random widths or diminishing courses for an authentic traditional appearance.
