scholes village primary school cast stone case study

Decorative cast stone window heads, cills and a namestone from Forticrete, have been handpicked for the construction of a stunning new 'Learning House' at Scholes Village Primary School in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.

The 12 metre square Learning House is a scaled-down replica of a bespoke David Wilson Home and has been built by the national housebuilder's Young Guns team - a collection of graduates and young people from within the organisation.

Built as a gift from David Wilson Homes to the school, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Learning House is situated in the school's playground, providing an environment in which pupils can enhance their learning experience and showcase their classwork.

To complement the facade of the Learning House and ensure the perfect finish, David Wilson Homes selected Forticrete's beautifully crafted cast stone heads, cills and a namestone in Bath.

Richard Weilding at David Wilson Homes, commented: "We wanted the Learning House to really have a positive impact in the local community, so it was essential it looked good and as such, a high quality finish was essential. It was extremely important when sourcing materials for the job that we turned to only the highest quality suppliers.

"Having specified Forticrete products for a number of years through the Barratt Group's National Supply Agreement for cast stone, we had every confidence they would deliver yet again. Forticrete's decorative cast stone dressings ticked all the boxes. We couldn't be happier with the finish."

John Lambert, General Manager at Forticrete, commented: "The Learning House will play a big part in the education of pupils at the school for years to come. Therefore we had no hesitation in doing our utmost to aid the construction of what is a fantastic gesture by David Wilson Homes."

Samantha Marriott, Head Teacher at Scholes Village Primary School, commented: "The new Learning House was designed to provide our pupils with an ideal environment that they would not only work within, but enjoy. The finished building is perfect - the school's staff and pupils are delighted."
