Stepoc®
From 1st July 2009 the Civil Engineering products range was integrated into Anderton Concrete, also a CRH company, based in Northwich, Cheshire. For all sales enquiries please call 01606 535300 or email civils@andertonconcrete.co.uk.

Stepoc is a system of highly-engineered and dimensionally
co-ordinated building modules which are designed to readily accept
both vertical and horizontal reinforcement for use where structural
performance is the prime consideration.
Stepoc combines the ease of blockwork with the versatility of
in-situ concrete, and yet is faster to apply than both, making it
an ideal component in fast-track construction for:
- Retaining Walls
- Basement Walls
- Swimming Pools
- Sheer Walls
- Laterally-loaded panels
- Blast Panels
- Storage Bays

The system is available in widths of:
- 200mm
- 256mm
- 325mm
The blocks are laid in a running bond, which
automatically creates the correct pattern to produce the
'waterfall' effect. Corners, T-junctions and cross junctions are
created using a combination of units and specific data sheets are
available to illustrate these.
All sales enquiries for Stepoc should be directed to our Customer
Service office on 01606 535300 or email civils@andertonconcrete.co.uk
.
Composition and Manufacture:
Stepoc blocks
are manufactured to fine tolerances using aggregates which satisfy
BS EN 12620:2002 and cement to BS EN 197-1:2000. They are
manufactured in accordance with BS EN 15435:2008
Dimensions:
Stepoc blocks are available
in the following sizes:
400 x 200 x 225mm
400 x 256 x 225mm
325 x 325 x 225mm
Weight:
Stepoc average weights per block are as follows:
400 x 200 x 225mm: 17.3kg
400 x 256 x 225mm: 19.8kg
325 x 325 x 225mm: 19.0kg
Characteristic Compressive Strength
(fk):
200mm - 14.0 N/mm²
256mm & 325mm - 18.0 N/mm²
Manufacturing Tolerances (mm):
Height: +2,
-2
Length: +2, -2
Width: +2, -2
Concrete Infill:
200mm - 0.11m³/m²
256mm - 0.15m³/m²
325mm - 0.19m³/m²
Fire Resistance:
Minimum fire resistance: 2 hours. For specific applications refer
to BS 8110 Part 1 1997.
Resistance to Frost Damage:
The Stepoc system
is resistant to the freeze-thaw conditions that are likely to occur
below a damp proof course.
Resistance to Sulphate Attack:
Stepoc has adequate resistance to Class DS-3 sulphate ground
conditions.

Step by step Construction Sequence
- The concrete foundation needs to be level.
- Vertical reinforcing bars are cast into the foundation at specific spacings.
- The first course is bedded on mortar.
- The horizontal reinforcing bars are tied to the vertical bars using tie wire.
- The blocks are stacked dry to the height of the first pour.
- The vertical faces should be checked on alternative courses for plumb.
- Concrete is preferably pumped into the blocks, using a minimum
C35/28 concrete with a minimum slump of 150mm and a maximum
aggregate size of 10mm
Alternative methods to pumping may be used, provided that the fresh concrete can flow in a similar manner to pumped concrete and that the method of transportation and placing does not incur an additional risk to the stability of the wall. Mechanical vibration is unnecessary, and should not be used.
