A New Chapter...........
Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Peter Arnold and Newcastle City Council leader, John Shipley, recently attended a ceremony to lay the foundation stone (see photo right, courtesy of Newcastle City Council) for the new City Library at John Dobson Street. The six storey building is part of a £40.2million regeneration initiative between Newcastle City Council and Kajima Partnerships.
The old library closed in September 2006, with work starting on the site in February 2007. Forticrete is supplying around 1800m2 of Architectural Masonry from the Medici and Textured block ranges as well as a selection of cut specials and Precast items, including the foundation stone. The masonry will be constructed in a stack bonded manner using full and half blocks, therefore removing the need for site cutting.
The new library, designed by architects Ryder and built by Tolent Construction Ltd, will be one of the best in Europe and provide a significant contribution to the regeneration of the City.
