DWA ARCHITECTS SPECIFY FORTICRETE'S RUSTIC GEMINI FOR NEW MULTI-MILLION POUND CARE HOME
Award winning EcoPlus Gemini roof tiles from Forticrete have
been specified for a new multi-million pound, 105 bed care home in
Kettering, to complement the 19th century architecture of a Grade
ll Listed Victorian villa which lies on the grounds.
As project architects, DWA Architects required a roofing solution
that would seamlessly blend with the handmade plain clay roof tiles
on the 19th century dwelling. The rustic colour of Forticrete's
Gemini roof tile provided the answer they were looking for.
The Kettering care home is just one of three Avery Health Care
homes constructed by DWA Architects that have utilised Forticrete's
Gemini roof tiles, with a fourth currently under construction in
Hatfield.
Dave Sedman, project architect for this care home
at DWA Architects commented: "It is essential that
when we specify products, we source solutions that are not only
aesthetically pleasing, but are cost-effective and provide
considerable ease of use.
"After specifying Forticrete's Gemini roof tiles for a number of
new care homes in the past, we had no reservations that they would
deliver on all these elements. In addition, the mix of different
shades that Forticrete's Gemini roof tile is available in is
remarkable.
"We specified the Rustic finish which allows the new care home to
seamlessly blend with the Victorian design of Elm Bank House which
sits on the same grounds- we couldn't be happier with the
result!"
Forticrete's Gemini interlocking tiles have been specifically
designed to replicate the look and feel of traditional plain tiles,
maintaining the appearance of a traditional plain tile roof.
They have 50% less CO2 emissions per m2 roof and improved coverage,
using less tiles per m2 making it a much more cost effective
solution. The roof tiling solution features increased tile strength
and an even stronger, tighter interlock as standard and because
they are so simple to install, the cost to lay them is also
significantly reduced.
As well as being extremely energy efficient, these next generation
roof tiles are aesthetically pleasing, easy-to-install and high in
quality. They have been specifically designed as interlocking tiles
which are just 270mm x 337mm overall, yet because of a carefully
judged central groove and innovative 'double cambered' design, they
have the appearance of two traditional plain tiles side by side
when laid, effectively laying two tiles at a time.
All Forticrete roofing and stone manufacturing facilities are BSI
registered and operate to the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2008
and BS EN ISO 14001:2004 - the national and international standards
for quality and environmental management systems and has gained the
rating of "excellent" for BES 6001 for 6 out of 7 factories
demonstrating responsible sourcing, showing that all building
materials are sustainable.
