Frequently Asked Questions

Masonry

[icon] - Question

How often do I need to position Movement Control Joints in masonry?

[icon] - Answer

The nature of concrete masonry is such that it will shrink and because of this it is necessary to accommodate movement control joints in the building design. BS 5628-3:2005 sets out the parameters for the positioning of control joints, and as a rule, vertical joints to accommodate horizontal movement should be provided at 6 to 9m intervals.
