Frequently Asked Questions
Masonry
How often do I need to position Movement Control Joints in masonry?
The nature of concrete masonry is such that it will shrink and
because of this it is necessary to accommodate movement control
joints in the building design. BS 5628-3:2005 sets out the
parameters for the positioning of control joints, and as a rule,
vertical joints to accommodate horizontal movement should be
provided at 6 to 9m intervals.
