Project Description
The New Wyre Building at Blackpool 6th Form College is Phase 1 of
an £11.5m project to replace the existing building stock. The
building will provide a modern Science and Technology Building and
will house a state-of-the-art Learning Resource area, as well as
Science, Leisure, Sport and Tourism departments.
Forticrete's Regency Ashlar features around the new building and external landscaping and is a contrast against the Red Cedar, Aluminium and Stainless Steel that is also used on the project.
In conjunction with the standard Ashlar blocks a range of special units were designed and manufactured for the project allowing some dramatic feature walls to be constructed. The project was built using a 5mm joint in lieu of the more traditional 10mm.
Phase 2 of the project - the New Medlock building - will be of a similar construction and also feature Regency Ashlar masonry. This building will provide a Visual Arts and Media Centre, Student Services and Cyber Cafe and is due for completion in August 2009.
