Project Description
The new building featured more than 4,000 Astra-Glaze units with
quoins, reveal blocks and half blocks specially created to ensure
continuity of appearance at corner and window openings.
The combination has provided a maintenance-free finish, which is
also resistant to weathering and graffiti.
Leicestershire County Council Senior Architect Nigel Dutton
explained:
"It would not have been appropriate to design something to
complement the existing buildings, which date back to the 1960's,
so we set out to create something different and the combination has
worked very well."
A second phase is currently being considered for 2008 again using the Astra-glaze masonry.
